Brinkley Wastewater Treatment Plant

Brinkley Wastewater Treatment Plant

Fast Fix Steelfixing is proud to have played a vital role in the construction of the state-of-the-art SA Water wastewater treatment plant at Brinkley, serving the Murray Bridge area. This innovative project, nearing completion, reflects our commitment to enhancing community infrastructure and environmental sustainability.

Our Contribution: Advancing Environmental Excellence

Recognizing the need for an environmentally responsible solution, SA Water initiated the construction of the Brinkley wastewater treatment plant. The catalyst for this project was an Environment Improvement Plan requirement placed on SA Water’s Murray Bridge EPA license in 2014. This requirement arose as the existing 1970s plant approached its capacity limits, posing potential risks to the River Murray and causing odour impacts on neighboring communities.

Fast Fix Steelfixing was honored to be part of the team that worked on this crucial initiative, which began in 2018. Our expertise ensured that the structural elements of the facility met the highest standards, contributing to the success of this ambitious endeavor.

Considerations for the new plant included odour management, water reuse opportunities, environmental preservation, heritage conservation, proximity to urban areas, and cost-effectiveness. Ultimately, a strategic location was chosen, situated 10km south of Murray Bridge on Pfieffer Road, opposite the Brinkley Waste and Recycling Facility. This 207-hectare site includes additional land designated as a buffer zone surrounding the plant.

The new plant boasts a processing capacity of 4.6 million liters of wastewater per day, serving the expanding community for years to come. It incorporates cutting-edge processing technology, featuring comprehensive odour management systems across the site and bio trickling and activated carbon tanks with a remarkable 99.95% removal efficiency.

As the new plant becomes operational, the original site will be decommissioned, with some of its newer equipment repurposed for network upgrades. The remaining areas of the original site will contribute to the development of the Murray Bridge community’s riverbank plans.

Recipients of treated wastewater from SA Water for re-use can expect to continue receiving this valuable resource, with further opportunities anticipated as the new plant enhances network capacity.
